SDX Central Introduction

SDxCentral is a United States-based technology journalism and market data research company based in Denver, Colorado. The company was founded in 2012 as SDNCentral focused on Software Defined Network, and changed its name to SDxCentral in 2015 to reflect its broadened focus on all emerging infrastructure technologies. The site currently receives over 200,000 unique visitors per month from over 170 different countries. SDxCentral is the Trusted News, Resource Site for Software-defined Everything (SDx), SDDC, SDN, SDS, Containers NFV, Cloud and Virtualization Infrastructure.

Challenges & Goals

SDxCentral’s existing analytics dashboard faced several limitations, which posed the following challenges to their operations:

  1. Performance: The existing dashboard suffered from memory leaks and performance bottlenecks, resulting in instability.
  2. Cost: The server costs associated with the previous technology stack were high.
  3. Features: The dashboard had limited features available through third-party tracking solutions, restricting the client’s ability to tailor analytics to their specific needs.
  4. Data Insights: To track newsletter insights, the client had to integrate multiple third-party solutions, incurring additional costs and creating dependencies on external data sources.

 

Neova and SDxCentral identified the following goals:

  1. Improve Performance: Enhance the performance of the analytics dashboard to handle the increasing volume of data and provide near real-time insights.
  2. Cost Reduction: Lower the server costs while maintaining or improving performance.
  3. Feature Enrichment: Expand the range of analytics features available within the dashboard, reducing the reliance on third-party solutions.
  4. In-House Data Insights: Develop an in-house data collector to gain better control and insights into the data generated by marketing campaigns.

Solutions

Neova’s technical team worked on all the requirements:

  1. Tech Stack Transformation: The tech stack was transformed to improve performance and cost-effectiveness. The old stack, which included Ruby on Rails 4, AngularJS, Postgres, Redis, Heroku, and Kissmetrics, was replaced with a new stack of Golang, ReactJS, AWS, Heroku, Postgres, Google, and D3 Charts. The new tech stack and infrastructure improvements led to significant performance enhancements, allowing the dashboard to handle large volumes of data and provide near real-time insights.
  2. In-House Data Collector: An in-house data collector was developed to gain better control and insights into the data generated by marketing campaigns.
  3. The new tech stack was implemented, and the existing dashboard was migrated to the new infrastructure.
  4. The in-house data collector was developed and integrated with the new dashboard.
  5. Cost Reduction: Server costs were substantially reduced, resulting in a more cost-effective solution.
  6. Feature Enrichment: The expanded set of analytics features empowered the client to customize analytics according to their needs, reducing dependency on third-party solutions.
