Challenges

As the MFT platform evolved to support cross-platform automation, scheduled transfers, and enhanced security controls, the complexity of configurations increased significantly. Minor changes in roles, certificates, transfer rules, or storage credentials could break critical file workflows. Traditional testing approaches were not sufficient to validate real-world, multi-platform file lifecycle scenarios. 

The objective was to ensure secure, stable, and fully traceable file workflows while enabling frequent and confident releases. 

  • Complex dependencies involving certificates, storage credentials, protocol configurations, and firewall rules. 
  • High regression risk due to configuration-driven workflows and role-based access changes. 
  • Ensuring consistent behaviour across Amazon S3, Google Drive, and internal servers. 
  • Validating scheduled and rule-based transfers across multiple environments (Dev, QA, RC, Production-like). 
  • Guaranteeing that every file action is logged accurately for audit and compliance. 

Solutions

  • Implemented end-to-end UI automation using Playwright to validate bucket creation, platform linking, role assignment, and file transfer workflows. 
  • Automated scheduled and rule-based transfers across S3, Google Drive, and internal servers to verify execution consistency and retry logic. 
  • Used Cypress for regression validation of admin modules including user management, protocol configuration, certificate handling, and bulk imports.
  • Validated role-based access control and multi-factor authentication scenarios.  
  • Verified audit logs to ensure every file action (upload, delete, move, transfer, sync) was properly captured and traceable. 
  • Integrated automation suite into CI pipeline to enable continuous regression testing before each release.
