Engagement Highlights – QA, Mini View and Compact View Modules

  • Developed a comprehensive strategy for the Mini View and Compact View modules, covering key features and their optimal functionality.
  • Automated regression testing significantly improves efficiency and accuracy.
  • Suggested process improvements that enhanced collaboration.

Company Introduction

Nextiva is a leading business communication company that offers integrated communication tools such as voice, video, and collaboration services. Their platform supports businesses by streamlining communication and collaboration processes, driving efficiency, and improving overall productivity. This case study focuses on enhancing their Calendar, Meeting, and Media Calls modules—core components designed to boost communication and collaboration among teams.

Module Overview

The modules enhance communication efficiency with two views:

  • Mini View: A compact interface for quick actions like calling, texting, and managing voicemails without opening the full app. Ideal for multitasking users.
  • Compact View: A streamlined display that maintains full functionality in a smaller format, offering a simplified yet complete communication experience.

Challenges

  • Regression testing for the Mini View module was performed manually, leading to inefficiencies.
  • A major challenge was identifying and fixing issues from new updates that affected existing features, emphasizing the importance of keeping regression test cases up to date.

Solutions

  • Automation of Regression Testing: Automating half of the regression test cases for the Mini View module enhanced testing efficiency, reducing execution time and improving accuracy. The Product and Development Managers responded positively to the new scripts.
  • Technologies used: Cypress with JavaScript and Playwright with Typescript
  • Continuous Communication: Maintained open communication channels with the development team, designers.
  • Test Data Management: Improved test data management to ensure consistent and reliable testing across Dev, RC (Release Candidate), and Prod environments.

Business Impact

These improvements led to a more cohesive workflow, with enhanced collaboration between teams, reduced rework, and increased overall efficiency. The initiatives undertaken, including test automation and process refinement, resulted in a more streamlined and productive development cycle.
