Mobile Application Projects

To avoid projects from being unsuccessful, we must have a strong strategy for the evaluation of projects. These are some ways through which we can efficiently evaluate mobile projects –

  1. Conduct Operational Assessment – We have to check on whether the organization has the appropriate infrastructure, provisions for data management and content management, team skills and other resources. Also consider legal and security issues.
  2. Check Capability of Platform – We should check whether the existing platform is adequate enough to fulfill the mobile project’s needs or a third party extension is required.
  3. Use Version Control – A source code version control tool is required. This tool must seamlessly integrate with the company’s mobile projects and tool-chain.
  4. Develop Additional Models – Endpoint computing leaders must refocus their efforts on developing alternative approaches to ensure proper evaluation.
  5. Establish Support – Support and management must be included in any mobile strategy as we have seen a number of mobile projects failing due to lack of end-user support.
  6. Feasibility –  If a mobile project has passed the above criteria, we are almost ready to start a project. The next stage is feasibility assessment. The feasibility studies in terms of technical aspects are derived in detail and the architecture of the mobile application is examined to get a better understanding. There are four main feasibility assessments for technology projects, but as mobile projects are customer facing, it is essential to add a fifth, i.e. market feasibility.

So the five feasibility studies that need to be conducted are:

Technical Feasibility: In technical feasibility, we check

  • What kinds of technology will we need?
  • Is relevant technology mature enough to be easily applied to our problem?

Operational Feasibility:  Operational assessment asks: is the organization ready for the project and its impact and what are the business, cultural, legal and other hurdles that might stop it from working in practice?

  • Will there be customer privacy concerns; how will they be managed?
  • What data is being collected; how will it be stored and managed; what are the risks?

Schedule Feasibility: This process helps evaluate if the project should/could be simplified to ensure faster speed to market by introducing efficiencies and/or saving features for the first scheduled update.

Economic Feasibility: In economic feasibility, we check the following things

  • Resource cost is based on the estimated resources within the technical analysis

Market feasibilityThis section of a market feasibility study describes the current market for the product or service

  • Market timeliness: best suitable time for release
  • Identification of the target audience

A mobile application requires a comprehensive evaluation of its technical requirements & evaluation strategies. So if we follow all the above stages properly, we are good to give a successful project to the company.
